... Dr Ho. is not only proficient at dental implants but also puts you at ease during the procedure. I've had the implant for more than a year and was surprised at how painless the process was whilst giving me a near real tooth that's easy to clean."

The 8 Advantages of Dental Implants
| Dental implants have a success rate of over 98% and are scientifically proven by independent research. They have the following key advantages:
| 1.
Dental implants look, feel and function like your natural teeth. Imagine teeth that fit harmoniously into the dental arch and indistinguishable from your other natural teeth.
2. |
It is a permanent solution to missing teeth. No more fumbling with dentures and the maintenance of them.
3.
It restores your bite by stopping the remaining teeth on either side of the space moving and rotating which often at times makes it difficult to chew food efficiently
4. |
It reduces speech impediment caused by missing teeth or denture palates.
5. |
They act as a stable foundation for crowns, bridges and dentures
6. |
You don’t have to cut down your other healthy teeth as you would for a conventional bridge to fit a dental implant. You preserve your other healthy teeth.
7. |
Dental implants transmit chewing forces evenly to the jaw bone. Just like natural teeth, the stress of chewing preserves the natural shape of the jaw. If this stress is missing, the jaw bone slowly shrinks away
8. |
More importantly it improves your smile and gives you a new lease on life.
| Am I The Right Candidate For Dental Implants?
| Generally, dental implants are suitable for people:
Of all ages, provided that jaw growth is complete.
Who are in good general health as well as having a healthy mouth. That is there is no active periodontal (gum) infection present in your mouth as this can have a negative effect on your dental implants treatment . Pre-implant course of hygiene treatments may be required to prepare the mouth for implantation
That has adequate jaw bone to allow placement and for good retention of the dental implant. If the bone volume is insufficient to support an implant, there are various ways of restoring the bone to prepare it for successful implantation.
However, a small percentage of patients may not be suitable for dental implants for various reasons; a thorough assessment will be conducted on a case by case basis. Factors that may prevent some patients from suitability include alcoholism, diabetes, lack of adequate bone structure, or some psychiatric disorders.
Even if all the medical requirements are met, whether dental implants are the best solution in an individual case can only be determined by detailed examination with Dr Christopher Ho.Based in Sydney contact the Institute for Dental Implants today to see how we can help you with your missing teeth or dental implants.
| What if I don’t have sufficient bone to place an implant?
We offer bone grafting which is a procedure that replaces missing bone with a material
called a bone graft. This material not only replaces missing bone, but also helps
your body re-grow lost bone. This new bone growth strengthens the grafted area by
forming a bridge between your existing bone and the graft. Over time the newly formed
bone will replace much of the grafted material.
We also offer Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR), a procedure in which a membrane is
placed over the bone graft site. This membrane further encourages new bone to grow
and also prevents the growth of scar tissue in the grafted site.
Bone grafts and GBR are needed when a part of your body is missing bone. This missing
portion of bone is frequently called a "bony defect". Examples of jaw bone defects
are: defects surrounding roots of teeth (periodontal defects); defects which occur
following tooth extraction; generalized decrease in quantity of jaw bone from trauma
or long-term missing teeth; defects surrounding dental implants; defects resulting
from cyst or tumour surgery.

Are Dental Implants Safe? What Is The Success Rate?
Absolutely. Since they were developed in the 1960s, the use of dental implants has
been investigated in over ten thousand scientific studies. There have been long
term studies into implant solutions for over 20 years which clearly confirm the
high success rate of 90-98%. Studies have shown that the earliest patients treated
with dental implants continue to enjoy healthy, stable smiles.
Does It Hurt?
Placing the implant in the gum involves a minor procedure that is usually carried
out in the dental chair with the same anaesthetic that we use for fillings; most
patients comment that the procedure is more comfortable than having a tooth removed.
There will be some minor discomfort afterwards depending on the number of dental
implants
placed; this can be alleviated with mild pain relief medication. For patients who
are particularly nervous or where a number of dental implants need to be placed at one
time, we offer intravenous sedation. We find that most patients say that the procedure
is much easier than they expected.
| How Much Will It Cost?
The treatment and associated costs depend on different factors and can vary from person to person. The costs are calculated from the number of dental implants to be inserted, the type of restoration chosen and the dental laboratory work that is required to complete the case. Additional costs may arise if the bone also has to be built up to support the implant.
It is important to note that at the Institute of Dental Implants in Sydney, the implants we offer are Nobel Biocare (Swedish) implants which are of the highest quality and the most researched implant system in the world.

| Indicative costs are as follows:

| Process of Bone Grafting
| Tooth Extraction
| Material placed in socket
| Protection of growing bone

| How Much Time Does It Involve?
| Placement of dental implants is a minimally invasive procedure and is usually conducted over two appointments; the first to place the dental implant taking approximately 1-2 hours, and the second to secure the crown or bridge. Although requiring diligent preparation, the placement of a dental implant is a safe procedure performed under local anaesthetic, with many patients reporting little to no discomfort; returning to work and their normal routine the following day.
